Challenges:

When Mrs. Gerry's began its search for a modern ERP solution, it needed a technology partner with expertise in Dynamics NAV and visibility into the manufacturing and shipping process.

One of Mrs. Gerry's main concerns was the short shelf life of its products. When an order is placed, Mrs. Gerry's needs to ship the product in two days. The company wanted to reduce the lead time for ingredients for faster shipping.

About Mrs. Gerry's

Side dishes. They’re really the unsung hero of family gatherings and holidays. After all, no holiday is complete without potato salad and coleslaw, and macaroni & cheese is automatically voted best dish on the table by adults and children alike—the proof is in the complete lack of leftovers. For almost 50 years, food process manufacturing company, Mrs. Gerry’s, has mastered the art of the side dish-not to mention a staggering selection of salads, desserts, dips and more.

What started in Minnesota with a family recipe and a love story (“The Gerry’s” are a husband-wife duo with the same first name-Gerry Vogt, the company’s founder, and her husband Jerry), has grown into a national powerhouse, 120 products strong. But today, with over 42 million pounds of packaged food products annually, national reach and nearly 300 employees, business challenges are inevitable. As Mrs. Gerry’s grew-and continues to grow-a need for technology that could keep up with demand and streamline the production process became paramount.

"We're looking to Columbus to drive the vision that we have for getting our tracking and reporting capabilities brought in and moving us forward by gaining visibility into our business."

Stuart Ness, Mrs. Gerry's Director of Information Technology

The Mrs. Gerry’s team takes advantage of ColumbusFood “add-ons” in its business, especially tools for batch planning and batch reporting. On the financial side of the business, promos, rebates and commissions met the team’s needs out- of-the-box with few subtle customizations.

On the shop floor, from a production planning standpoint, Ness says they’ve increased their scope and visibility without adding additional people, which improved productivity. ColumbusFood has also helped to simplify some of the on-floor management output.

As for future innovation, Mrs. Gerry’s plans to continue its focus on producing high quality products while stressing less about software. “Our goal is not to become masters at software,” said Ness. “Our goal as a company is to be masters in producing salads and side dishes. We do it very well and we don’t want to be the best developers on Dynamics NAV. We’re looking to Columbus to drive the vision that we have for getting our tracking and reporting capabilities brought in and moving us forward by gaining visibility into our business.
